  • Lady Mary Peters visited F.H.I.P.S

    Thu 02 Mar 2023

Over the last few weeks, the P7 class has been researching the many achievements of Lady Mary, from her early athletic career, through various successes in Commonwealth games and of course culminating in her glorious gold medal performance in the Munich Olympics in 1972.

We first of all made a visit to The Linen Museum where we viewed the Mary Peters display, then used our ICT skills to produce our own, which was exhibited in our assembly hall.

Before Mary’s visit we thought long and hard about what questions we could ask, who inspired her, what were her dreams and aspirations as a child, how did winning the Olympic gold medal change her life?

Finally, the day of her visit arrived. Mary, looking amazing in her tracksuit from 1972, entered the room and took time to answer all our questions and then spoke to the different children as they showed her their contribution to the display.

An amazing lady took time out of her busy schedule to visit and inspire the next generation of young people.

“Follow your dreams boys and girls, you can be anything you want if you work hard enough for it.”

A day both the children, and staff, will remember for a long time.

  • 📚World Book Day📚

    Thu 02 Mar 2023

WORLD BOOK DAY was celebrated on

    Thursday 2nd March. 📚

This year’s World Book Day celebrations did NOT involve dressing up, so the children did not need a costume.

Each class celebrated books and reading through carefully planned class activities. 📗

Primary Six pupils enjoyed coming down to read stories to the Primary One children. 📖

The children also got their £1 book token.

  • 🦸‍♀️Raising Autism Awareness - Superhero Day 🦸

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

On Friday 10th February we had Superhero Dress Up Day in Fort Hill IPS. We had a mixture of Superhero masks, full costumes and even some Superhero hairstyles! We asked for a voluntary £1 donation to sponsor our Superheroes at Autism NI.

“We need your support to deliver services and support autistic individuals and their families. There are currently 1 in 22 school aged children in Northern Ireland being diagnosed with autism. Schools and youth organisations therefore play a massive part in promoting autism awareness and peer support.” Autism NI

As you know, all schools have many children, staff or both on the Autism Spectrum. We opened our Autism Specific Class two years ago and we also integrate children who have autism throughout our mainstream classes. We, with your help, raised an amazing £1042 on that day with the families of our Autism class raising £806 of this through sponsorship forms. Mr Keith Pyper from Autism NI visited today to collect the mony raised and was extremely appreciative.

    promote uniqueness.

It also helped to highlight how children should be proud to be different from others. 😊
